What’s a Renewal of Vows Ceremony?

Oct 27, 2020

A Renewal of Vows Ceremony is a wonderful occasion where couples like you come together to reaffirm and recommit yourself to each other.  Many couples choose to have the ceremony on a significant date or anniversary.  For example on the anniversary of your original wedding date or on a special birthday. Many couples choose a 10th or 20th Wedding Anniversary or a 40th or 50th Birthday celebration date.  Others may have come through a difficult time in their relationship and wish to reaffirm their commitment.  Whatever the reason it will be a very special occasion.

Is it legally binding?

It isn’t a legal ceremony.  It’s more about celebrating your partnership and the love that binds you together, not about a piece of paper.  It’s a totally bespoke ceremony where you get to celebrate everything you love about each other.  A chance to look back on all you’ve achieved together and forward to good times ahead.

Where would we have our Renewal of Vows Ceremony?

Wherever you want it!  There are no rules or regulations which means the only limit is your imagination.  This is one of the wonderful things about a Celebrant Ceremony.  You can choose a favourite location that has a special meaning to you both.  Maybe where you met, where the proposal took place, where you originally ‘tied the knot’ or a favourite holiday venue.

You might even like to have the ceremony outdoors.  There are some stunning locations all around the UK and you could have your ceremony overlooking a wonderful view.

What will the ceremony be like?

The ceremony will be all about you, your life, your love and your family.  Your Celebrant will get to know all about you and what makes your relationship special and unique.  This means that your ceremony will be a ‘one-off’.  It can include music that has a special place in your hearts, poetry, contributions from family and friends and some symbolic elements too.  It’s a fun and relaxed occasion that can also be romantic or quirky.  It will really reflect your personalities.

Do we exchange Vows at the ceremony?

Wouldn’t it be lovely to write your own Vows with words from your hearts?  Your Celebrant will help you with this and you’ll be amazed at how simple it is.  Your own words will mean so much more to your partner than something written by a stranger.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to let your partner know how much you love and appreciate them.  The words you use can be romantic and fun, a real reflection of you and your character and relationship.  Totally personal to you.

Do we need to exchange new rings?

It’s entirely up to you whether you want to buy new rings, use your existing rings, or buy another piece of jewellery as a token and symbol of your Vow Renewal.  Whatever feels right to you.
